CAMMICE/MICS Data

Data and documentation for the MICS detector on the CAMMICE instrument on board the Polar spacecraft.

Data and related code

• CAMMICE data viewer, an easy-to-use IDL tool for browsing the CAMMICE dataset.
• MICS intermediate format, a full resolution calibrated dataset in CDF format, recommended for detailed analysis.
• Raw level zero, probably not of interest.
• Level zero CDF, only of interest if there is some need to work very close to the raw telemetry.

Documentation

• The Polar CAMMICE investigation: main instrument description paper; only available in draft.
• Wilken, B., et al. (1992), Magnetospheric Ion Composition Spectrometer onboard the CRRES spacecraft, J. Spacecraft Rockets, 29(4), 585-591.: this instrument is very similar to CAMMICE/MICS.
• CAMMICE MICS/MDPU Experiment Handbook: full description of the instrument and on-spacecraft data processing. Chapters 1 and 3 are probably of most interest to users of the data. A (much larger) high resolution version for those who need to read the smallest diagrams.
• Data Format Control Document Between the International Solar-Terrestrial Physics Program Mission Operations and Systems Development Division Division Ground Data Processing System and the ISTP Mission Investigators (offsite link to GSFC, document 560-1DFD/0190): description of the Level 0 data files. Only useful if working on the level 0 (i.e. unprocessed) data.
• Common Data Format homepage (offsite link to GSFC): useful reading if unfamiliar with CDF files, as most data available here are in CDF.
